Godzilla?? In Boston?? It’s more likely than you think.
This month’s new Godzilla vs. America: Boston comic from IDW Comics features four stories from four different creative teams showcasing Godzilla taking on the Cradle of Liberty. As you might guess, there is a lot of smashing of recognizable and historic Boston sites along the way.
Fenway Park appears in three of the four stories as well as on the cover. While Fenway only gets a passing mention in the second story of the collection, both the third and fourth stories feature Fenway in a big way.
In the sweet children’s story-esque “Make Way for Mothra” (written and illustrated by Hanna Cha and lettered by Brian Kolek), baby Mothra wanders around the city in larvae form before finding Fenway Park and deciding that it is the perfect place to spin up her enormous cocoon and rest up before taking on the city in her final, more recognizable form.
In Hayden Sherman’s story “The Green Line” (lettered by Brian Kolek with colors from Patricio Delpeche), two Green Line workers use their skills and train to lead Godzilla down a path through historic Boston. Fenway Park does appear at the end, but to tell you how would be to give away a little surprise.
It is worth noting that Fenway Park concessions workers went on strike this week, so perhaps Godzilla’s path of destruction is simply showcasing his support for the union.
