Angels in the Outfield
Ya gotta believe!
Two fans dressed as angels watching the game
Last Wednesday, the outfield seats at Angel Stadium were taken over by a massive group of Angels fans sporting white robes, feathery halos, and, occasionally, angel wings. Throughout the game, they cheered loudly, shouted roll calls, and chanted “Let’s go Halos!” and “Sell the Team!” But how did this all come about?
The “Right Field Revolution” started with a life-long Angels fan named John Cantrell. Last year, it struck him that while the Los Angeles Angels are called the Angels, there wasn’t much angel theming going on during games. “I couldn’t believe that the Angels didn’t have any angels. So I was like, we could have a group of guys get together, dress up as angels, and just get wild and rowdy and crazy at the games.”
The idea was launched at this year’s home opener, as John Cantrell convinced a couple of his friends to attend the game in angel garb purchased from Amazon. Though they started out with seats on the third base side, they ended up shifting their gimmick to right field. “There’s something about right field I’ve always loved. There’s so many balls hit out there, so there’s way more action from a fan standpoint.” Cantrell and his friends began to call themselves the Halo Boyz, and as they garnered more attention (and more requests to join the fun), they decided to go all out for a game, calling the big event the “Right Field Revolution.”
As the Halo Boyz presence began to grow online, other online Angels fans joined in, including Jake Shannon, who runs the TaylorWardLover Instagram account. Though Cantrell and Shannon had never met in person until the big day, they have been equally excited to garner as much buzz and as many attendees for the big game as possible.

But just because the first iteration of the Right Field Revolution was a smashing success doesn’t mean the fun is all over. Fans should keep an eye on the Halo Boyz Instagram account to keep up to date on when to show up next. “The community we built is incredible,” John Cantrell says, “We all just want the Angels to win. We all love going to games, and we’re just gonna have a massive party. It’s incredible. Just seeing the support and the views and just how many people want this has been incredible.”
