Every Shohei Ohtani ad I saw in Tokyo
Last month, I spent a week in Tokyo. Beyond eating snacks, gyoza, and yakitori (I had a limited diet due to a fish allergy), bopping about museums (yes, I went to the Hall of Fame), and shopping, I made an effort to photograph every Shohei Ohtani advertisement I came across.
Most prominent of the brand deals was be Ohtani’s collaboration with watch company Seiko, which culminated in not only a life sized cutout of Ohtani at the Seiko flagship store, but also a small Ohtani bobblehead at a vintage watch shop.
At first, I was a little disappointed with the number of ads I came across, as friends had mentioned that during their trips, Ohtani’s face was unavoidable, plastered across dozens of billboards and inserted into every single type of grocery store ad. During my time in the city, there weren’t many Ohtani billboards on display, and the Ohtani-advertising-mania certainly did not produce the overwhelming effect I had been expecting. But – I did come across enough ads to put together a nice gallery of photos.
Here are all of the Shohei Ohtani ads I saw during my week in Tokyo (also included: three photos of local storefronts that had photos of Ohtani displayed and one magazine cover display that featured Ichiro).
